Suddenly, I was awake. Was it the stilled quiet of the room, or the wind tapping a lone branch against the window with a noisy rustling of nearly fallen leaves that disturbed my sleep. The night cold enveloped me in an icy chill, and from the foot of my bed two yellowish monstrous eyes, hovering in the darkness, glared menacingly at me. In my child’s mind a monster of indescribable horror was positioned to devour me in a hideous frenzy of gluttony. All the dark festering forgotten nightmares of my youth stood before me in one unimaginable creature. Its' entire form filled the room with shadows in the shape of chairs, dressers, and lamps. No doubt the remnants of past feedings bulging from its' sides. AAAAAGH . . . AAAAAAAGH ...” I screamed and screamed again. The air around me evaporated; the screams froze in my throat. Time ceased and reality was decimated by fear. I did not hear the sound of footsteps bounding up the stairs. I felt only the warmth and comfort of two caring arms surround and hold me tightly. The questions, "What's the matter? What is it?" were repeated urgently but softly until they finally penetrated my hysterical fear. Pointing at the two eyes staring back at me, I sobbed, "It's a monster!" The lamp on the bedside stand was turned on; the terrible monster with glowing eyes disappeared . . . Resting innocently on top of the dresser were two flood light bulbs.
